Where Did My Favorite CBD Go? An Honest Update on the New Hemp Rules
A note from Erica & Julie, the two women behind CBD Genesis
Most days, the messages in our inbox are simple. Which strength should I try? How long does a jar of Pain Cream last? Lately, though, a different question keeps showing up, and you can feel the worry behind it: Is my CBD about to disappear?
The short answer is no. CBD is not being banned. But the federal rules around hemp are changing this fall in a way that will touch a lot of the products you know and love, including some of ours. You deserve a straight explanation, so we're going to walk you through what we know, what we think about it, and what it means for you.
To understand where we are, it helps to go back to 2018. That year's Farm Bill made hemp legal across the country as long as it contained no more than 0.3% THC by dry weight. That single line of law opened the door for everyday CBD: tinctures, creams and gummies that help people unwind, recover and take care of themselves. It's the reason small shops like ours exist.
It opened another door, too. Over the next several years, hemp-derived THC products like Delta-8 and Delta-9 gummies became widely available, and for many adults they became a legal, accessible option for the first time. Not every company handled that responsibility well. Some sold products that were never tested for potency or purity. Others put gummies that looked like candy on gas station counters, within easy reach of kids. States pushed back on their own, and eventually Congress stepped in.
In November 2025, Congress rewrote the federal definition of hemp. Under the new rule, a finished hemp product can contain no more than 0.4 milligrams of total THC per container, and that total now includes THCA. The changes roll out in two stages. Synthetic cannabinoids, the ones the hemp plant can't produce on its own, lose their legal status on November 12, 2026. Everything else follows on December 11, 2026, after Congress pushed that part of the deadline back in September.
That limit reaches further than THC products. Full-spectrum CBD is made from the whole hemp extract, which means it naturally carries a tiny trace of THC along with the CBD and other plant compounds. It's nowhere near enough to make you feel anything, but it's enough to push many full-spectrum products over the new 0.4 mg limit. Broad-spectrum CBD starts from the same plant, but the THC is filtered out, so it isn't affected.
The new rule doesn't ban CBD. It bans THC, and full-spectrum CBD got caught in the net.
For CBD Genesis, the timeline moved even faster. Our credit card processor has told us that every product containing THC must come off our website by November 23. That makes November 23 our last day to sell THC products and full-spectrum CBD, a few weeks ahead of the federal deadline.
We want to be honest with you about where we stand, because this is personal for both of us.
We believe in THC. A big part of the CBD Genesis community is older adults, and over the years so many of you have told us what access to Delta products has meant to you, whether that's a gentler option, a calmer evening or simply a little enjoyment. We believe adults have the right to make that choice for themselves.
Think about alcohol. It's sold on nearly every corner and served at family restaurants where parents sit with their kids, and it offers no health benefits at all. THC deserves the same common-sense approach: ID required to buy, products kept behind the counter, and clear standards for everyone who sells it.
Adults deserve access to THC. They also deserve products they can trust.
What we don't want to see are the things that brought on this crackdown in the first place: gas station gummies within a child's reach, and products sold without third-party testing for potency, heavy metals and contaminants. Those problems are real, and they hurt every honest business in this industry.
So we're going to keep doing two things at once. We will fight for your right to keep using these products. And we will keep running CBD Genesis as a trustworthy, compliant business in an industry where, right now, many companies aren't. If there's a silver lining here, it's that the bad actors will finally be forced out, and the good ones will still be standing.
So what does this actually mean for you?
If our Pain Cream is part of your routine, you can breathe easy. It isn't going anywhere. A new batch made with broad-spectrum CBD, which meets the new rules, will arrive before the law takes effect. Only the full-spectrum version is stepping aside for now.
Our full-spectrum tinctures, salve, roll on, softgels and pet tinctures will leave our shelves on November 23, along with all of our THC products. Our THC-free favorites are staying put, including the Broad Spectrum Tincture, our PURE CBD and DreamBerry gummies, and the Grain Free Dog Treats that so many of your pups have come to expect. If you're not sure what to switch to, reply to any of our emails and tell us what you use. We'll help you find the right fit ourselves.
We're also using this moment to build. New broad-spectrum formulas featuring CBD, CBN and CBG are in the works. And our sister brand, Spa Pro, is launching Spa Pro Therapy, a brand-new line made without any CBD at all. The first product arrives later this month: a Magnesium Butter for tired, overworked muscles and joints. We've been using it ourselves, and it's to die for.
Most of all, we want to say thank you. We started as wellness professionals, sharing CBD with our own clients. As one of the pioneers who helped build this industry, we've seen it change before, and we'll keep adapting as we need to. CBD is who we are, and we're here to stay.
For years, you've chosen us, told your friends about us and trusted us with your routines. You've carried this little business, and we don't take that lightly. The rules may be changing, but we're not. We're the same small team, packing your orders with the same care, and we'll keep you in the loop every step of the way.
With love and gratitude,
Erica & Julie
P.S. If you'd like to stock up on your favorites before they're gone, everything full spectrum is 50% off and all THC products are 60% off through November 23, while supplies last. Shop the sale here.
